Lenoir County man charged in relation to vehicle break-ins, theft

LA GRANGE, N.C. (WNCT) — A man was arrested by the Lenoir County Sheriff’s Office in regards to vehicles and outbuildings being broken into on Bonnie Walters Road in La Grange.

Austin Ray Newcome, 27, of Kinston, was charged with eight felony counts following the break-ins. Newcome was identified as a suspect due to surveillance footage.

Law enforcement officers said Newcome mostly stole change and then used a Coinstar machine to cash in the money. Newcome was also seen on surveillance video at the money machine wearing the same clothes as the surveillance video at the scene of the crimes.

Newcome was charged with:

  • Two counts breaking and entering
  • Two counts felony larceny after breaking and entering
  • Four counts of breaking and entering a motor vehicle

Newcome was jailed without bond due to him already being on pretrial release.
