SOUTH BRUNSWICK — Two Philadelphia men have been charged with targeting homes for burglary in Central Jersey.

Michael Guess, 67, and Mark Guess, 62, were charged July 5 by township police with attempted burglary and conspiracy to commit burglary. Their vehicle was also impounded pending the issuance of a search warrant, police said.

At around 8:45 p.m., South Brunswick Police were notified by North Brunswick Police that two suspects in a silver GMC SUV with Pennsylvania license plates had just left North Brunswick after trying to break into two homes.

Minutes later the SUV was reported in the Summerfield Development off Route 522, according to South Brunswick police.

A witness called police to report someone had gotten out of the SUV and gone behind a Scenic Drive home. Minutes later, the witness reported the SUV had left the neighborhood.

South Brunswick Officer Garret Byrne spotted the SUV on Route 522 near Georges Road. Byrne was joined by Sgt. Raymond McCarthy and Officers Dale Hubner, Owen Lennon and Victoria Olexsa. The officers stopped the SUV on Route 522.

Officers detained the two occupants of the SUV.

South Brunswick officers determined that both men were captured on video surveillance attempting to get into a North Brunswick home.

Olexsa began canvassing the area of Scenic Way to check what home may have been burglarized. She located a homeowner who reported that one of the men attempted to break into her home. That homeowner also provided video surveillance of the attempt, police said.
