HENDERSON, N.C. (WNCN) — The Vance County Sheriff’s Office has arrested two individuals in connection with a slot machine theft at the New Hope Mini Mart and is actively searching for a third suspect who fled during a traffic stop.
Deputies Respond to Theft at Local Mini Mart
The investigation began on Tuesday when deputies responded to a report of larceny at the New Hope Mini Mart. Upon arrival, the store clerk informed law enforcement that the lock on a slot machine had been broken, and between $9,000 to $10,000 in cash had been stolen.
The theft, involving tampering with a coin-operated gaming machine, prompted an immediate investigation by the Vance County Sheriff’s Office.
Traffic Stop Leads to Arrests — One Suspect Flees
Shortly after the initial report, a deputy spotted and stopped a white BMW traveling on Haywood Wright Road. During the stop, the front seat passenger exited the vehicle and fled on foot. The driver and backseat passenger were taken into custody without incident.
Suspects Identified and Charged
The driver, identified as Dkendre Myliek Andrews, 22, has been charged with felony conspiracy. He is being held on a $65,000 secured bond and is scheduled to appear in court on Wednesday.
The backseat passenger, Alexux Murphy, 25, faces the same charge of felony conspiracy and is also being held on a $65,000 bond, with a Wednesday court appearance set as well.
Third Suspect Still on the Run
The front seat passenger, who fled during the traffic stop, has been identified as Dayvon DyShiek Person, 34. He remains at large and is wanted on multiple charges, including:
- Breaking and entering into a coin- or currency-operated machine
- Damaging a coin- or currency-operated machine
- Felony larceny
- Resisting, delaying, or obstructing a law enforcement officer
Authorities have launched a manhunt and are seeking assistance from the public to locate Person.
