FORT ST. JOHN -- An investigation is currently underway at the Peace Villa long-term care home in Fort St. John, following a complaint received last month alleging harmful actions and neglect, among other concerns.
In a letter obtained by CJDC-TV dated December 11, 2024, staff, residents, and their families were informed of the investigation being conducted by Community Care Facility Licensing.
“The investigation is based on a concern received on November 15, 2024, and is regarding harmful actions not permitted, neglect, general health and hygiene, food preparation and service, policies and procedures,” read the letter.
Peace Villa Manager Pat Evans stated they are committed to providing updates to those affected.
Notifying residents of an investigation is a requirement of licensing, according to Northern Health, who are withholding comment on the matter to preserve the integrity of the investigation.
However, they mentioned that multiple investigations can occur at any given facility to improve the quality of care.
“Northern Health takes any concerns about client treatment at long term care facilities seriously, and Northern Health licensing investigates complaints about care that it receives,” said Northern Health in a statement to CJDC-TV.
The Health Authority adds that investigations are conducted in depth and changes are made where applicable to improve care.
The allegations have not yet been substantiated.
This is an on-going story, CJDC-TV will continue to provide updates as they become available.
